The MBCC has taken crime statistics to the next level in Montana. The new web-based MTIBRS is comprised of two components; a secure repository accessible only to law enforcement agencies for submitting crime data and an interactive public website to view crime data. The new system is called MTIBRS Online Reporting (MOR). MOR can be accessed on the MBCC’s website: www.mbcc.mt.gov and clicking on “Crime Data” on the homepage. An introductory webinar for MOR is also available on the website. The new system can report on 22 different crime parameters including geographical region, crime type, day-of-week, time-of-day, or gang involvement. Data from 2005 through 2010 is now available; 2011 data will be updated on the site in January 2012. Thereafter, the site will be updated with new data on a quarterly basis. The MBCC’s MTIBRS is the central repository for the collection of offenses known to law enforcement (i.e., crime data). The MTIBRS is certified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Reporting program. The MBCC collects crime data from about 100 local law enforcement agencies and makes it available to policy makers, practitioners, educators and the general public through publications like the annual Crime in Montana. The MBCC is the designated state agency that administers millions of grant dollars dedicated to preventing crime and making justice system improvements statewide. The 18-member board, appointed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer, represents law enforcement, criminal justice system stakeholders and citizens. Board members provide critical citizen leadership, oversight and accountability of systems charged with promoting justice and public safety. The MBCC’s Statistical Analysis Center is charged with overseeing the collection of crime data from local law enforcement agencies as part of the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Read More. |
