There is a new warden in town. A couple of months ago Paul Lawson was named as the director of the Okaloosa County Jail. Lawson was the jail's deputy director and replaces former Director Larry Caskey, who has retired. Lawson said many of the jail's employees have worked at the facility for years and that he would like to tap into their experience. "One of my goals for 2012 is a staff review of all policies and procedures," Lawson said. "We have many years of experience under this roof and we have some new corrections officers. I believe that the buy-in would improve if people were a part of a complete review and update." "We have great employee morale and involving them can make great even better," he said. Lawson knows the job. He was hired in 1981 as a corrections officer by Okaloosa County Administrator Jim Curry and celebrated his 30th anniversary at the jail last July. "Not only will the Department of Corrections benefit from Paul's 30 years of comprehensive experience at the jail, but he has the integrity, diplomacy and professionalism needed in this demanding job," Curry stated in a press release. "We are lucky to have him and these attributes filter to all the professional staff in corrections." Read More. |
