| WY DOC: Nelsen selected as employee of the quarter |

Cheyenne – The Wyoming Department of Corrections Central Office has selected Lt. Robert Nelsen as the Outstanding Employee of the third quarter of 2011-12. He was nominated by his peers and selected based on his continued exemplary performance. Nelsen is a training lieutenant with the Wyoming Department of Corrections Training Academy in Rawlins. He has been with the WDOC for 13 years. “Nelsen is an innovative, out-of-the-box thinker, who is always investigating ways to use technology to better the academy and, therefore, the department,” said Jeffie Wiggins, WDOC Central Services Administrator. “His 13 years of service to the WDOC and close to four years of dedication to the staff of the Wyoming Department of Corrections as a trainer has propelled the academy well ahead of their contemporaries in the field.” He personally researched options that allowed the academy to go practically paperless in the classroom that resulted in a potentially significant cost savings change to the department. Nelsen’s primary motivation was to make the classroom more closely resemble the work place and provide academy students the ability and experience to learn in an environment that will help them in their future corrections officer roles. Nelsen has also taken on the additional duty of being the primary information technology expert for the academy. He has willingly acquired the necessary expertise to manage a network of more than 60 computers while still maintaining active involvement with the academy classes and continuing to instruct. In addition to taking on these added responsibilities, Nelsen was recently selected by his peers in the corrections training profession to serve on the board of the International Association of Correctional Training Personnel. |
