County inks contract for jail space |

MT -- Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said a contract has been signed with Madison County to hold inmates in the new detention center that could pave the way for future deals with other counties. Gootkin said the three-year agreement went into effect Jan. 3 and will bring in $142,350. The contract calls for holding two beds for the Madison County Sheriff Department. The county will charge additional fees if more beds are needed. The detention center could operate without contractual agreements, but a resolution passed last year by the Gallatin County Commission requires setting up deals with other jurisdictions, Commissioner Steve White said. The ordinance requires the county to set aside a portion of the fees to pay for future expansions of the jail. Read More. |
