LAKEWOOD, NJ — Officials brought in nine drug-sniffing dogs into the local public high school Wednesday but came up empty-handed in their search for drugs, police said.

With all students removed from the school, the nine dogs from the Prosecutor’s Offices in Monmouth and Ocean counties K-9 Units, as well as a K-9 Unit from the state Department of Corrections, descended on the high school around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to carry out the search following discussions with school administrators and faculty, according to Detective Capt. Paul Daly.

“The dogs did not hit on anything,” Daly explained.

Police may conduct another search of the high school with drug-sniffing dogs before the school year is completed, and a search at the middle school could also be done before the doors are closed for the summer, Daly said.
