A Yazoo County judge decided Thursday that she didn't have jurisdiction to rule on whether Azikiwe Kambule, one of the felons pardoned by former Republican Gov. Haley Barbour, should be released from prison. Circuit Judge Janie Lewis ruled that since Kambule is no longer being held in a Yazoo County prison and he committed his crimes in Madison County, and a Hinds County judge forbid his release, she didn't have the authority to free him. "I can't set aside a Hinds County Circuit Court order," Lewis said. "Only the Mississippi Supreme Court can do that." Cynthia Stewart, Kambule's attorney, said she plans to appeal. Read More. |
