Another escape from the Vision Quest juvenile detention facility in Pa. has local residents wondering why they were never notified that there were delinquents on the loose. "When these kids are out, I need to be informed," Katherine Fox of West Bradford said. Two of the three escapees are still at large. Fox was at her Cranberry Lane home Saturday afternoon when a neighbor contacted her about the situation. "If it wasn't for people in the neighborhood, we would have never known what was going on," Fox said. "I was watching three children at home and the garage door was wide open." According to state police at Embreeville, at around noon on Aug. 21, three male juveniles broke through a secured door, removed an air-conditioning unit from a first-floor window, and fled on foot. The three escapees, ages 15, 16 and 16, all of Philadelphia, had been committed to the Vision Quest New Direction Shelter, a center for nonadjudicated juveniles awaiting hearings for various crimes. The Vision Quest facility is located in the Embreeville Complex on West Strasburg Road, the same grounds as the state police barracks, which may make escape seem difficult. But repeated breakouts have worried local residents, especially when they do not find out about them until after the fact. Beth Rossica, vice president of service for Vision Quest, confirmed one of the escapees was found and gave himself up. She said the two other juveniles are still missing, but authorities do not expect to find them in the area. Recently, officials at the Department of Public Welfare announced plans to relocate both Vision Quest, and the Clinical School from West Bradford. Officials at the Department of Public Welfare did not return repeated attempts to contact them Monday. |
