Published: 02/14/2012

Cheyenne – The Transition to Community (TPC) statewide taskforce approved the six initial issues of focus for its working groups at its quarterly meeting last week.

The chair for each of the six work groups presented to the main TPC taskforce about what issue or problem has been identified as priority one for the group.

Those priorities include:
  • The need for more transitional housing for individuals coming out of prison or other correctional settings (housing workgroup).
  • Increasing the number of offenders who have the skills or education to obtain a sustainable wage job (employment and education workgroup).
  • Increase how and when information is shared between the WDOC and the local community treatment providers regarding client care (treatment workgroup).
  • The need to deter offenders continued association with negative peers and increase their involvement with pro-social peers (peer support workgroup).
  • Develop awareness of what programs are utilized by the county jails to address critical offender needs (jail programming and transition workgroup).
  • Develop better communication and outreach to other state agencies, stakeholders, and offenders about what reentry services are available for offenders and how they can gather more information on the services (access to resources and informations sharing workgroup).

With the approval of each of the workgroups priority issues, the teams will now begin directing efforts on gathering data to better define and quantify the issues and begin developing recommendations for possible solutions. The groups will then present their findings and multiple recommendations to the TPC taskforce at its next quarterly meeting on April 11.

The TPC taskforce, which was formed in November 2011, is concentrated on improving offender reentry services and resources through the collaboration of community leaders and stakeholders. The taskforce is composed of 14 separate organizations and agencies from across Wyoming. It is chaired jointly by the Governor’s Office and the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

There are a lot of key issues which forces need to handle especially if the army involved. The custom assignment help also talks about these issues which govt. need to take action.
