Tulare County will get the $60 million it asked for to cover most of the costs of building a new jail in the Porterville area. The award of grant money for the proposed 200-bed "South County Detention Facility" was announced Thursday by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's Corrections and Standards Authority, which awarded a total of $602 million for jail construction and expansion projects to 11 counties.
