A 45-year-old inmate was injured last Tuesday evening after he threw himself off a second-story railing at the Justice Center Jail.
The man remained unconscious and in critical condition last Wednesday at OHSU Hospital, said Lt. Michael Shults, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Shults declined to release the man's name until his family is notified. The man was jailed Aug. 19 on accusations of resisting arrest, second-degree trespassing and interfering with a police officer.
At 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Noel Pol went into the man's room to pick up his dinner. The man pushed by the deputy and ran upstairs to the second floor of the dorm. Pol ordered him back down, but the man ignored him, Shults said.
The man jumped off the railing. Pol pushed a table out of the way and tried to break the man's fall. But the man went through his arms, crashing head first into the concrete floor.
