| Police swarm island in massive hunt for inmate |

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (WTW) — The normally tranquil St. Simons Island off the Georgia coast was abuzz with police activity as dozens of officers and some tracking dogs hunted an inmate who escaped from a work detail. Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering said the inmate was clearing debris from county drainage ditches on Florida Street when he left. Authorities tell The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/GDAVlS) they had found his clothing — a white T-shirt with "State Prisoner" written on the back and white pants with a blue stripe.
