Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti is rolling out his Yellow Dot safety program in five new towns in the coming weeks, bringing the total number of Yellow Dot towns in Norfolk County towns to 10, with more on the way. “The Yellow Dot program is a simple and extremely effective way to make sure senior citizens get the best care in the unfortunate event they are in an automobile accident,” Sheriff Bellotti said. “It’s free. It’s easy. And you’ll be glad you have it when you need it.” The program opens on April 12 in Holbrook and comes on line in Franklin on April 25, Dedham on May 4, Randolph on May 11 and Wrentham on May 18. When people sign up for the program, they are given a highly visible yellow dot decal for the rear windshield of their car. If they are in an accident, the decal alerts emergency responders to check the glove compartment for a file listing medications that person is taking and other pertinent health information. Police and fire department officials in Norfolk County have hailed the Yellow Dot program as a great help to responders and a potential lifesaver for program participants. Yellow Dot is part of a group of programs Sheriff Bellotti runs through his Triad program, which is dedicated to helping senior citizens. Yellow Dot is similar to Sheriff Bellotti’s File of Life program, which lists important medical information in a folder kept in a highly visible place inside a person’s home. Sheriff Bellotti works with local councils on aging and public safety officials to coordinate the Yellow Dot program. Cohasset was the first Norfolk County town to sign up for Yellow Dot. It was followed by Bellingham, Canton, Foxborough and the town of Norfolk. “We are in touch with local leaders of all the communities in Norfolk County and we can bring Yellow Dot to them whenever they are ready,” Sheriff Belloti said. “If the program is not in your town yet, contact your local council on aging to see when it might be starting.” |
