Mahoning County, PA -- A federal grant is making a major upgrade possible at the Mahoning County Jail. The jail has outgrown its current booking system, which has a number of deficiencies. "It doesn't give us the credible reports, and the information that we put into it is hard to pull out," said Mahoning County Sheriff's Major Alki Santamas. The new E-Justice System will enhance the jail's operations and provide instant inmate access to the court system, which is something the current system does not do. "Getting information about who is held in that jail,to the people that needed to have that information," said Barb Zorn, an independent information technology. "Specifically, the people in the courts; the judges, the clerks of court." "The courts will be able to peak in and look at the population, what an inmate is in there for, who is in a particular court," said Santamas. "Hopefully, we can move the prisoners through the jail a lot smoother." Officials in the past have said having that information before setting trial dates or other court proceedings could cut down on the jail population. Read More. |
