County OKs amendment for additional jail expenses |

CROSSVILLE, TN — Cumberland County approved two budget amendments during its March monthly meeting. The larger amendment was resolution 03-2012-3 — an $85,000 budget amendment to cover juvenile detention fees and a variety of medical supplies and other increases, unanticipated costs at the Cumberland County Jail. Last month, Sheriff Butch Burgess came to the budget committee and told them the county was facing a minimum of a $75,000 shortfall in this year's budget for the Cumberland County Jail. The news prompted county commissioners to pass a resolution last month urging the state to fund Cumberland County more appropriately to cover the actual costs of housing state prison inmates in the county jail. The county requested the state to increase its funding of state prisoners being housed in Cumberland County to $74.62 per day, which is based on the Cumberland County Finance Department's estimate for the county's cost to house these inmates per day.
