Inmate Sentenced for Spreading HIV Dies in Iowa City |

IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 48-year-old inmate serving a 25-year sentence in Coralville’s Iowa Medical and Classification Center for criminal transmission of HIV died Sunday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Darrell John Alderton died of natural causes due to atherosclerotic heart disease after serving nearly six years on his sentence, which began July 6, 2006, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
