A Michigan House panel is recommending the closure of a prison in Ionia as part of cost-cutting proposals. The proposal Thursday by a Republican-led House subcommittee on prison spending is preliminary and will compete with other spending recommendations that don't include closing the Michigan Reformatory facility.
