Judge Rejects Nassau Corrections Officer Lawsuit |

NY -- A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Nassau County filed by the corrections officers’ union that has alleged the recent demotion of 30 corporals was illegal—a ruling the union has vowed to appeal. The Sheriff’s Officers Association filed suit in January, claiming that County Executive Ed Mangano illegally demoted the corporals after a self-imposed deadline had already passed. The Republican administration maintains that the demotions were proper and justified to help close a multi-million dollar budget gap. “It is time for us to move on and continue to tackle the tough problems the county faces,” said County Attorney John Ciampoli, adding that he was pleased with the ruling by New York State Supreme Court Justice Karen Murphy.
