Inmate receives lengthy sentence in prison rape case |

SOMERSET, Pennsylvania — An inmate at the State Correctional Institution in Fayette County will most likely spend the rest of his life in prison after his sentencing Thursday in Somerset County court. President Judge John M. Cascio sentenced Lark Allen Ramsey, 45, to 33 1/2 to 70 years in a state prison for rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated assault and assault by a prisoner. He was convicted after a trial in January. Two other charges, aggravated indecent assault and aggravated harassment, merged with the other charges for sentencing. Assistant District Attorney Carolann Young said the district attorney's office was urging the judge to sentence Ramsey to a term consecutive to the one he is already serving. The victim was in the courtroom, but did not make a statement. Defense attorney J. Michael Smith said he knew that the presentence recommendation was for consecutive sentences, but he asked the judge to consider concurrent sentences, at least with the one Ramsey is currently serving.
