NH DOC: Life Saving Medal Awarded to Corrections Corporal
By New Hampshire Department of Corrections
Published: 04/13/2012

(Concord, N.H.) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that Corrections Corporal Keri Denis was awarded the Department’s Life saving medal on April 12, 2012 for saving the life of an inmate last year.

On July 28, 2012, Corporal Denis was on duty at the Shea Farm Transitional Housing Unit in Concord when she observed an inmate hanging from a water pipe. She took immediate action to lift the inmate up to release the tension. She asked five other inmates to aid her. The inmates called 9-1-1 and assisted in bringing the inmate to the floor. When Concord Emergency Technicians arrived they performed emergency care and the inmate survived. Without the quick action of Cpl. Denis and her disregard for her personal safety this incident could have ended tragically.

Commissioner William L. Wrenn said, “Corporal Denis used her Corrections training and available resources to avert what could have been a tragic situation. She is to be commended for her actions”

Cpl. Denis was awarded the Department’s Life Saving medal during a pinning ceremony at Shea Farm today. Commissioner Wrenn also wrote letters to the five inmates thanking them for their assistance.
