Sex offender escapes from Lansing |

A 59-year-old child sex offender who was 2 1/2 years from possibly being released from prison escaped early Wednesday when from Lansing Correctional Facility in Lansing, authorities said. It marked the second time the man, identified as Gary Leslie Furthmyer, has escaped from prison since his 1985 conviction on child sex abuse charges in Sedgwick County. Furthmyer escaped about 3 a.m. Wednesday from his minimum custody job assignment at the facility’s steam plant, according to Lansing officials. Furthmyer is described as a white man with a light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes standing 5-feet-9 and weighing about 185 pounds. He is serving a 6-to-25 year sentence from a 1985 conviction of indecent liberties with a child, and aggravated failure to appear. Read More. |
