Authorities have recaptured one of two convicted murderers who escaped from a prison van in Montana. Russell VanKirk was still in handcuffs and chains when caught blocks away from a fast food place in Helena. The men broke a window out of the van when one of the officers went into the restaurant. Police say VanKirk and another convicted killer, William Brown, later tried to steal a car. Brown is still on the loose. Four other prisoners were in the van. Two stayed there, one was badly cut in the escape attempt and another was quickly apprehended. Officers have been going door-to-door checking houses and garages and warning residents about the escape. |
