Second rampage at Risdon Prison |

Tasmania, Australia -- Tasmania's prison service has confirmed there was another outbreak of violence at Risdon Prison last night, this time in the medium-security Gordon unit. Seven inmates went on a rampage about 8.30pm, damaging property and slightly injuring another prisoner. The Department of Corrections says the Tactical Response Group was called in to restore order. Earlier in the day, two guards were injured when they were taken hostage by maximum security prisoners; one suffering a fractured cheekbone, the other a dislocated shoulder. Despite the violence, the Corrections Minister Nick McKim says the Tactical Response Group will remain on call, rather than being based at the prison. Read More. |
