Charges were dropped today against a corrections officer who had been accused of beating an inmate on the State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh's F Block. Sean Storey, 27, of Mount Washington, was charged in November with simple assault, official oppression and terroristic threats stemming from a June 2010 incident. One inmate, sex offender Michael John Beck, said that he was beaten in his cell on F Block and another inmate pinned it on Mr. Storey. The accusation was one of scores by former F Block inmates against corrections officers, seven of whom were charged with crimes that generally targeted sex offenders. Four still face charges. Assistant District Attorney Jon Pittman said today that prison investigators have been interviewing people who were in cells next to those of the accusers in the cases. "Just based in good faith, we don't believe we have the evidence to go ahead" with charges against Mr. Storey, he said after withdrawing charges. He did not anticipate withdrawing charges against any of the other corrections officers. They are Harry F. Nicoletti, Tory Kelly, Jerome J. Lynch and Bruce S. Lowther. Attorney Chris Capozzi, who represents Mr. Storey, said the witnesses against the corrections officer were "sketchy" and their stories differed. "Sean Storey didn't commit those crimes," he said. "It's good to know that prosecuting authorities finally accept that fact." Read More. |
