Idaho's Prisoners To Be Sent Out Of State

Nampa, Idaho (KMVT-TV) It's being reported that Idaho prison administrators are planning to send hundreds of prisoners out of state.

Now KBOI, our sister station in Boise has received several emails and phone calls from people who are concerned over this.

Amanda Howell has a lot on her plate... That includes maintaining a household and raising a daughter by herself while her husband Rudy is currently serving a five year prison sentence after violating his parole.

She and her daughter frequently drive seven hours from Nampa to Orofino to visit Rudy. But now she's worried her husband could be one of hundreds of inmates who might be transferred out of state.

Howell says, "if they take them away, who's going to see him? Who's going to support him? I can't go. My husband's daughters can't go. His mom. He'd be alone."

The Idaho Department of Corrections is making plans to send inmates to out–of–state facilities to ease crowded prisons here in Idaho.

Brent Reinke, Director, Idaho Department of Corrections adds, "wherever we send these individuals and wherever that may be, they'll be a selection process that will be be pretty exhausting and we'll be working on that in the month of July."
