NV -- For fifteen years, law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty have been remembered at a memorial ceremony in Carson City. The annual ceremony will be Thursday May 3rd at the Capitol grounds in Carson City. 120 Nevada law enforcement agents have been laid to rest. They may be gone, but they're not forgotten. Their legacy and memory lives on throught the Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony. Click here to find out more! The first ceremony was back in 1998 when the memorial was dedicated to "recognize the ultimate sacrifice" these men and women have made in our community. The first officer ever killed in the line of duty was John Blackburn, who was killed back in 1861 when making an arrest. The most recent was Nevada Department of Corrections Officer Tracy Hardin, who died from complications after a fight with an inmate. Thursday's ceremony will start with the delivery of a runner's baton. The memorial run started in Las Vegas last week. One leg of the run is completed in memory of every officer listed in the memorial. This year, three officers will be honored. Read More. |
