The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Bridgeport Correctional Center.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, correctional staff during their regular tours, observed an inmate in his cell with a tee shirt tied around his neck. The other end of the shirt was secured to the smoke detector cover. He was the only inmate in the cell at the time.

The inmate is identified as 36-year-old Isaias Perez of Bridgeport. He was serving a nine-year sentence for Robbery in the First Degree. He had most recently entered the system in December of 2003.
