Authorities are still searching for a Michigan Department of Corrections parolee who walked away while mowing grass across the street from the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer, according to a Michigan State Police press release. Darrell Allen Stallard, 31, had been under supervision at the Tuscola Residential Reentry Program in Caro. He had been serving a sentence for armed robbery, according to the Offender Tracking Information System. Lapeer City Police, the Lapeer County Sheriff Department and Michigan State Police from the Lapeer Regional Post responded Tuesday, according to the news release. A command center was set up at the prison. Police officers, dog handlers and a helicopter were used to try to immediately locate Stallard. Local schools also were temporarily locked down Tuesday until the investigation revealed Stallard had been wearing regular clothing under his prison uniform. A local search was called off about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Read More. |
