An inmate who escaped from the Lansing Correctional Facility three weeks ago is back in custody thanks to a tip, officials said Wednesday. Gary Leslie Furthmyer, 59, was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kansas City, Kan., said Jan Lunsford, a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections. Lunsford said Furthmyer was taken to the Wyandotte County jail, where he was positively identified. Furthmyer will be returned to the Lansing prison. More than a dozen tips were called in to the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline, officials with the Enforcement, Apprehensions, and Investigation unit of the Kansas Department of Corrections said. The prison staff confirmed about 3 a.m. that Furthmyer had escaped from his minimum-custody job at the prison’s steam plant. Read More. |
