TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Family, friends and fellow law officers were on hand at the Link Centre as 16 cadets from the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center walked down the aisle and on to the stage. The group of men and women went through ten weeks of instruction at the training center to receive their certificates Friday. Training Center Instructor, Sgt. James Hood, said, "They do firearms training where they get proficient with their firearms and where they have to pass with a score set by the state. There's physical training, where they have to pass a test. They have driver training, laws, state statutes, federal laws." Most of the new officers already are and others soon will be working in police and sheriff's departments, for the Department of Corrections and other agencies. Graduate Cody Crum said, "We've learned a whole lot over the last ten weeks. We came in here pretty much blind. We didn't know anything it seemed like. We've really had our eyes opened to a lot over the last ten weeks." Read More. |
