(Concord, N.H.) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that a minimum security inmate has walked away from the Corrections Transitional Work Center in Concord. Michael James Cayton, 24, of Concord, New Hampshire was not in his bunk when Corrections Officers conducted a population count at approximately 1:00 am on Monday, May 14, 2012. Officers searched the building without success and placed him on escape status at approximately 2:00 am. Inmate Cayton is described as 67 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has tattoos on his left forearm, upper left arm, chest, abdomen, back, neck, and right forearm. He is serving multiple concurrent sentences including a sentence of 2 ½ - 7 years for Witness Tampering out of Merrimack County Superior Court. He is also serving sentences of 1 to 7 years for two convictions of Criminal Mischief and one conviction of Felon in Possession of a Weapon. He is also serving a sentence of 1 to 6 years for Burglary from Grafton County Superior Court. He is also serving a sentence for two convictions of Sale, Possession, and Manufacturing of Drugs (Heroin) from Merrimack County Superior Court. He first entered the New Hampshire State Prison on October 31, 2008 for the Criminal Mischief convictions. He was paroled on October 15, 2009 but he returned on a parole violation on April 13, 2010. He began serving his Witness Tampering conviction on September 2, 2010. His parole eligibility date is December 29, 2012. The New Hampshire Department of Corrections investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating.
