Prison officer loses fired appeal |

TRENTON, NJ — A South Woods State Prison corrections officer who was fired after he was convicted of refusing to take a breathalyzer test has lost an attempt to get his job back. A state appellate court Monday rejected Anthony McIver’s appeal of a Civil Service Commission decision that removed him from his job at the Bridgeton prison. McIver, a senior corrections officer employed by the state Department of Corrections for 14 years, was arrested in November 2009 on charges of driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test. He pleaded guilty to the breathalyzer offense in June 2010 in Vineland Municipal Court. The crime was McIver’s third DWI offense.
