Suit alleges rape, cover-up at prison |

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The allegations are disturbing on a couple different fronts; a prison guard accused of raping an inmate and the warden accused of blowing an undercover FBI operation in an effort to cover up the sex abuse. A lawsuit filed Tuesday in Valencia County makes some jaw-dropping claims against two corrections department workers. “It involves a captain of the prison raping an inmate systematically over a period of months,” Attorney Matthew Coyte said. The inmate’s attorney said Captain Kenneth Carrejo raped his client while he was locked up at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas in early 2011 as he was finishing up a six year sentence on drug charges. “My client was a victim of his predatory nature,” said Coyte. Coyte said his client collected a DNA sample during one of the attacks. “If you’re being raped and you’re in a prison what do you do with the DNA evidence well he kept it and hid it and then sought out the FBI,” Coyte said. That is where things get interesting. According to Coyte, the FBI was planning an undercover operation to get that DNA secretly and safely out of the prison, a claim the FBI will not talk about.
