Fallen heroes may be honored by highways named for them |

CHILLICOTHE, OH — Two men who died in combat and a corrections officer at a local prison could be honored with memorial highway designations in Ross County. State Rep. Gary Scherer, R-Circleville, announced that Aaron Reed, Joshua Gire and David Gibson were honored in a bill that passed the Ohio House unanimously Wednesday. The bill is now on its way to the Senate, where it is expected to pass. The “Lance Cpl. Aaron Reed Memorial Highway” will be designated on U.S. Route 50, from its divergence off of U.S. 35 to Ohio 327. Reed was killed August 4, 2005 while serving in Iraq, when the assault vehicle in which he was riding was hit by an improvised explosive device during combat operations. The “David A. Gibson Memorial Highway” will be designated on Ohio 104 between Williamsport Pike and Pennyroyal Road. A corrections officer at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution, Gibson died in a motor vehicle accident March 31, 2009. Read More. |
