Two female state prison inmates who walked away from a Rapid City, S.D. work-release program last Monday were apprehended last Thursday in Illinois, a state prison official said. Jamie Lambertz and Teresa Roberts walked away last Monday night from Community Alternatives of the Black Hills, where they were housed in a work-release program. The two were caught last Thursday in Rockford, Ill., said Laurie Feiler, deputy secretary of the state Corrections Department. Lambertz, 23, was serving a one-year sentence for hit and run with injury and a consecutive two-year sentence for a bad-check conviction in Brookings County. Roberts, 40, was serving a five-year sentence for violation of a drug-free zone and a concurrent two-year sentence for failure to appear in Lawrence County. Under South Dakota law, a conviction for the crime of escape is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A conviction of escaping from the custody of the state Corrections Department carries a mandatory sentence of at least seven years. |
