Stacking your resume with exaggerated data?

There are three things that people tend to “fudge” with and they are the same three things that will be fact checked by the prospective employer.

The first thing is your post-secondary education and whether you have a degree or not and where you attained that degree. If you have an Associate’s Degree state so and don’t put down you have a Bachelor’s Degree. Ensure your field and major reflects accurately as well as your class ranking and GPA as they are provided in the transcripts. Asking for transcripts is an expectation thus be prepared to do so when approached. If it was an online or distance learning college be prepared to show it is accredited and real. Stay away from those mail order college certificates and transcripts as they will be discovered and validated to be false.

The second thing on your resume to be ‘padded” your current and past job descriptions listed as well and the time frames associated with these positions. Don’t be a faker and tell the truth so that when you are challenged with a question, you can answer it honestly and quickly. Lies take time to make up and are never ever told the same way twice or three times in a row.

The last thing you need to be careful of when doing a resume are your affiliations, your non-profit volunteer work, your service record and your history with former employers or volunteer groups. Listing your hobbies may be innocent but when you falsify your charity work, your military records and your community service, your character is severely flawed and closes the door to many other opportunities in the future.
