An inmate at a jail near Binghamton, N.Y. has been indicted on several felony assault charges after a scuffle in which four officers were injured. A jail administrator says 41-year-old Jeffrey Moore snapped after he asked an officer for soap and toothpaste but wasn't provided with the items fast enough. A Broome County grand jury today indicted Moore on four assault counts, as well as charges of reckless endangerment and obstruction of governmental administration. The jail administrator says a few minutes after Moore requested a supply of soap and toothpaste, he apparently became enraged when a corrections officer said he hadn't yet been able to obtain the items. The administrator says Moore then began to hurl several chairs in the jail's central housing area. The jail official says it took six officers using pepper spray to restrain Moore. Four guards sustained minor injuries in the incident. |
