| Private prison cuts 54 workers |

LAS ANIMAS — Still reeling from the Colorado Department of Corrections’ closing of Fort Lyon prison, residents here got word of more prison layoffs, this time at the private Bent County Correctional Facility. According to Steve Owen, public affairs officer with the Corrections Corporation of America, the company laid off 18 employees at its Bent County Correctional Facility and another 36 employees at the Crowley County Correctional Facility in Olney Springs. "Our top priority is assisting our affected employees through this transition. All of them are being offered the opportunity to transfer to other CCA facilities and we hope that they choose that option," Owen said. Read More. |
