Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women (KCIW) in Pewee Valley recently achieved a score of 100 percent on its re-accreditation audit. This is the first perfect score for the prison. The head of the audit team for KCIW, John Onellion, praised the facility for its cleanliness, sanitation and maintenance. “This was an excellent audit,” said Onellion. “The staff here is very knowledgeable, very motivated and morale is high.” “I am very proud of the staff at KCIW,” said Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson. “To attain a perfect 100% ACA score requires a constant effort on behalf of everyone at the facility. The accreditation process gives us an opportunity to demonstrate the excellent standard set by the Department and KCIW has shown their dedication to this standard by receiving this outstanding score.” Warden Janet Conover also congratulated the KCIW employees. “I am very proud of this great accomplishment in achieving 100 percent for the first time in KCIW history.” ACA consists of over 500 national standards that cover security, operational and programming aspects of a prison and require constant monitoring and quality control checks. Each prison is audited by ACA every three years and has an inter-departmental audit (Program Security Review) every year. Kentucky has been a member of ACA since the early 1980s. |
