As Inmate, Sandusky to Pose Challenge

Pennsylvania -- Now that prosecutors have won a conviction in the child sexual-abuse trial of Jerry Sandusky, state authorities face a different challenge: looking after the 68-year-old former Pennsylvania State University assistant football coach in prison.

A jury Friday convicted Mr. Sandusky on 45 counts related to sexual abuse of 10 boys over 15 years. He faces a maximum sentence of 442 years, and prosecutors have said they intend to seek an effective life sentence.

"Pedophiles sit absolutely at the bottom of the prison social structure, and people will go after them," said David A. Harris, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Ensuring his safety may mean limiting his freedom of movement, Mr. Harris added. "Jerry Sandusky is headed for a special circle of hell in the prison system," he said.

Mr. Sandusky's bail was revoked Friday, and he is being held at the Centre County jail in central Pennsylvania until his sentencing.
