An unidentified inmate was seriously injured Wednesday morning at about 3 a.m. when he apparently tried to escape while being transported to a hospital for evaluation. The inmate, who was not named by the Somerset County (Maine) Sheriff's Department, was on his way to Redington-Fairview General Hospital, which is only about a mile from the jail. Sheriff Barry DeLong said the inmate apparently kicked a window out of the transport vehicle and jumped out while it was still traveling at a considerable speed. Chief Deputy Ronald Moody said Wednesday afternoon that the incident is under investigation and declined to release further details. |
