Arizona -- I want to introduce you to a pastor who recently gave up the church that he pastored for 19 years to become the Wild Horse and Burro Supervisor at Arizona State Prison. A few years ago, Pastor Randy Helm of Hope Church in Glendale, discovered something about himself that he was completely unaware of. He has a gift with horses. Randy can do things with wild or abused horses that very few people in the world can do. Put a wild horse right off the range from Nevada in a circular horse pen with him and in a few sessions the horse will be well on the way to being saddle broken. Randy is a horse whisperer. Horses, domestic, abused or wild, just trust him. Wanting to become even more proficient with his gift, he became a certified trainer at the Lyons Legacy training center in Tennessee. As a pastor, Randy was very familiar in counseling and helping untamed, abused or hurt people. But he began to see a correlation in healing horses and healing human beings. He discovered that he could minister to abused people by showing them how to heal and restore abused horses. He then began to conduct clinics at abused women’s homes and at other churches and ministries. The women connected with Randy’s gentle yet fruitful way of initiating healing to the fearful abused horses. They began to understand their issues by observing the horse’s issues. They could see themselves in the abused horse. Recently I went to one of Randy’s clinics. As he begins to work with the wild or abused horse, he explains how the horse got to this point, that the horse is this way because they don’t want to be hurt again and how to show the horse that he doesn’t want to hurt them. The horse wants to trust, but needs to see first if Randy is trustworthy. It is compelling. Some in the audience were in tears, not so much for the horse as for themselves. The horses’ healing becomes their healing. Randy discovered something else. Many prison inmates have some of the same issues as wild horses. So, when wild inmates learn how to deal with wild horses, they receive a revelation about themselves, too. Healing comes by doing, not just hearing. Amazing stuff, huh? Read More. |
