GRANITE, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is hoping the transfer of older inmates in place of younger ones to a prison in western Oklahoma will create an environment that is easier for the understaffed facility to manage. The transfers to the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite began June 4, and 255 prisoners had been moved there by the end of the last week, corrections spokesman Jerry Massie said. Roughly 480 inmates who are older than 40 are being moved to the facility and about as many younger prisoners are being moved out, The Oklahoman reported (http://is.gd/bQ9uut ). "Generally, they're a little bit more stable," Massie said of older inmates. "They just kind of age out of a lot of acting out kind of behavior that you might see with younger inmates." Read More. |
