Two Wyoming inmates housed at the Bill Clayton Detention Center in Littlefield, Texas, escaped from the facility late Thursday night, September 9, and were apprehended several hours later approximately 10 miles away. There were no injuries to staff or members of the public. The men are two of the approximately 500 inmates housed out-of-state due to lack of beds in Wyoming prisons. According to Warden Michael Mitchell, the two inmates, Michael Solis and Jeremiah Zupko, were counted in the 9:30 p.m. count and were discovered missing around 10:45 p.m. After an extensive search, the men were apprehended and taken into custody. Michael Solis was serving a 5-7 year term for delivery of heroin and a 2-3 year term for possession of methamphetamine. Jeremiah Zupko was serving one count of delivery of methamphetamine, a second for delivery of marijuana and a third for burglary. Each sentence was 7-10 years, to be served concurrently. Both inmates have been at the Texas facility since March 2004. Escape from official detention is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 10 years. The Littlefield, Texas police department is the lead agency in the investigation. |
