SKIPPACK, PA — Township officials received an update on the progress of the construction of new state prison during a recent public meeting. Liz O’Reilly, a member of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services’ executive team, appeared before the township’s board of supervisors, according to township Manager Ted Locker. O’Reilly, the agency’s deputy press secretary for public works, reported that the heavy landscaping and fencing would make the new prison barely visible from Skippack Pike, Locker said. Pennsylvania has agreed to pay Walsh Construction and Heery International $315.8 million to design and build a prison capable of housing 4,100 offenders on the grounds of Graterford State Prison. The total cost of the project is estimated at $365 million. The new facility will better fit with the Department of Corrections’ population needs while reducing operational costs, according to state officials. Some sections of the existing Graterford State Prison date back to 1929. Completion of the new facility is expected by 2014. Read More. |

Earlier today I read somewhere that the construction of the new graterford prison is on hold due to some issues with compaction grouting. Is it true? I would really appreciate it if you could cover this aspect in your current news, thanks!
