| Minor fire at Jackson prison health center forces evacuation of some patient rooms |

BLACKMAN TWP, MI — A minor fire early Thursday morning at a Jackson prison health center forced the evacuation of some patient rooms. The fire started about 12:25 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Duane L. Waters Health Care Center inside the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, said Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Deputy Director Jon Johnston. Firefighters were on scene for about two hours. Crews from the Henrietta Township and the Jackson fire departments assisted. "Disruption to the hospital was minimal," Johnston said. Russ Marlan, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections, said the fire started in the mechanical room.
