Inmate suffers smoke inhalation in kitchen fire
By Associated Press
Published: 09/13/2004

A kitchen fire at the D.C. Jail sent one inmate to the hospital last weekend.
The fire started in the basement of the jail in the 1900 block of 'E' Street Southeast.
D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter says 18 inmates were in the kitchen during the blaze. Etter says there were no evacuations. The fire was contained to the kitchen and an exhaust fan ventilated much of the smoke from the room.
One inmate was taken to a hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Calls to the Department of Corrections were not immediately returned.
