Calhoun County Man Killed In Prison Fight |

BESSEMER, Ala. (WHNT) – An inmate at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility died on Thursday after being stabbed, allegedly by another inmate. Steven Newell, 23, was serving an eight-year sentence for assault and theft from Calhoun County. Authorities say he was stabbed during a fight with another inmate, James Bennett. The fight happened Thursday at approximately 5:30 a.m. A weapon was recovered. Newell was pronounced dead in the facility’s healthcare unit, according to Brian Corbett, spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Corrections. Newell had been serving time since November 2010.
