| Sheriff Thomas Hodgson seeks raises for sheriff’s security staff |

Dartmouth, MA -- Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson is lobbying state leaders in an effort to increase the pay for Sheriff’s Department security staff. Hodgson informed members of this staff in a July 25 letter that he met with Jay Gonzalez, secretary of administration and finance, on July 10 to discuss what he called a “gross inequity in compensation between the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office staff and that of the other county and Department of Corrections employees.” “There’s no more Mr. Nice Guy,” Hodgson said. “I’ve been dealing with the state for a long time on this and it’s just outrageous.” Hodgson said he is seeking a one-time adjustment of approximately $7,000 to the annual compensation rate of each employee. He said the increase is well justified considering the pay to staff in other sheriff’s departments across the state and would at least provide Bristol County staff with the average rate of the other departments. The salary request comes as the department’s correctional officers are negotiating a new contract with the state that Hodgson said would also increase medical benefit expenses to employees.
