| Stillwater prison gas leak prompts evacuation of buildings |

Crews digging to replace concrete at the Stillwater prison hit a gas line Friday, Aug. 10, prompting an evacuation of nearby buildings, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. The incident began about 8:30 a.m., Washington County dispatch reported. The contractors were working outside, near the prison's industrial unit, where prisoners do metal and wood work, welding and upholstery, said corrections spokeswoman Sarah Russell. "Our staff train for this kind of thing all the time," Russell said. "The offenders were immediately evacuated to their living units." Read More. |
