A former jail officer has pleaded guilty to charges she provided drugs two years ago to an inmate who later died, according to Norfolk County (Mass.) District Attorney William R. Keating. Keating's spokesman, David Traub, said that Christine Callahan, 38, of Weymouth, pleaded guilty last week to three felony charges of manslaughter, distribution of heroin, and distribution of heroin within a jail. Callahan was indicted on all three charges in October 2002, and her trial was scheduled to begin last week. She is accused of smuggling heroin into the jail on May 7, 2002 and giving it to Anthony Marchetti, 34, also of Weymouth, who later died. A release from Keating's office said the heroin "contributed to the death." |
